The SKÅL movement started in Paris on the 18th December 1932. The word SKÅL, of Nordic origin, was adopted as symbol of the movement as the founding members wanted to recall the atmosphere of warm welcome and friendliness they received when they attended a cultural meeting organized in Scandinavia by famous Airlines. After the Club in Paris was born, many others applied for membership of this movement whose symbol means the friendships that involve all members and that is express by the typical Scandinavian toast. In fact the word SKÅL is made up with the words SUNDHET (Health) - KARLEK (Friendship) - ALDER (Long life) - LYCKA (Happiness). In Italy the SKÅL starter its activity on 18th November 1949, when a club was set up in Rome, the 52° of such Clubs in the world. The SKÅL is the Club for those who work in the field of Tourism as Entrepreneurs and executives of Organizations or Official Bodies. It welcome all those who work in the filed of Tourism whose prospect is mainly based upon international peace, mutual friendship and understanding between people. The more these feeling will reinforce the more tourism will develop. It is only natural then that those who dedicate their life to it would find our movement an occasion to reinforce that feeling of friendship and warm welcome that unite all members, above all differences in race, religion, political ideas. This is why the SKÀL is also called:"ASSOCIATION DE PROFESSIONNELS DU TOURISME"Today it is present in nothing less than 87 countries with about 500 Clubs and over 25.000 members. In Italy the movement Developed after the war and has today 13 Clubs with over 1.000 members.
